About Us

Center for Hearing & Deaf Services, Inc. (HDS), a non-profit agency, has been in continuous operation for more than a century. Founded on September 21, 1921, when social work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals was in its infancy, our agency has evolved over 100 years to provide a wide range of professional services for people who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing.

Our Programs

Life Skills Development Program

We serve clients who are deaf, intellectually disabled and/or have mental health needs by offering instruction and experiences that improve daily living skills and foster independence. This program provides clients with the opportunity to experience self-growth through improved communication and social interaction.

Deaf Youth Program

We provide opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing youth to interact socially with their peers and with members of the Deaf community. Through the program, youth can participate in a variety of weekend recreational and cultural activities.

Audiology Services

Statistics indicate that one in ten Americans have some form of a hearing loss. The Audiologists at HDS are certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and licensed by the state of Pennsylvania.

Assistive Device Center

Established in 1989, the Assistive Device Center offers the most extensive display of assistive products currently available for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Individuals are welcome to come into our Center, and a trained professional (skilled in sign language) will help them select a device that meets their needs and budget.
